SPRING MOON CELEBRATES HONG KONG’S ANNUAL DRAGON BOAT FESTIVAL WITH A COLLECTION OF FOUR PREMIUM DUMPLINGS, INCLUDING THE NEW RED DATE LYCHEE DUMPLING

A thrilling spectacle with origins stretching back more than 2,000 years, Hong Kong’s annual Dragon Boat Festival draws visitors from all over the globe and holds a particularly special place in Chinese culture.

 

Since first opening its grand doors on the shores of Victoria Harbour in 1928, The Peninsula has been a bastion of heritage and tradition in Hong Kong. Following in that proud tradition, The Peninsula’s Michelin-starred Cantonese restaurant, Spring Moon, has unveiled a series of special rice dumplings available in four indulgent flavour, including the new Red Date Paste and Lychee Glutinous Rice Dumplings, to celebrate this year’s Dragon Boat Festival.

 

The Premium Glutinous Rice Dumplings (priced at HK$ 628 each) arrive bursting with flavour thanks to the unique way in which they are prepared. Rather than being cooked in water, the dumplings are simmered to perfection in a broth with a secret recipe while the glutinous rice is pre-seasoned with abalone sauce to give it a fuller flavour. As well as dried abalone from the Middle East and pieces of diced fresh abalone, the Premium Glutinous Rice Dumplings also feature carefully selected ingredients such as Yunnan ham, chestnuts, lotus seed, pork, salted egg yolk, shiitake mushrooms, oyster sauce, conpoy, glutinous rice and mung beans. Also available is the Deluxe Glutinous Rice Dumplings (HK$ 328 each).

 

Coming in pairs are the Red Date Paste and Lychee Glutinous Rice Dumplings and Lotus Seed Paste Glutinous Rice Dumplings (HK$ 268 per box with one each). The lychee variation is a bold creation by The Peninsula Hong Kong’s new dim sum chef, Cheuk Ka Ching. Offering a refreshing take on a traditional delicacy, these dumplings are inspired by lychee red date soup, an ancient recipe that, according to Chinese medicine, nourishes the blood. The lychee is also chosen because the flavour of the fruit remains strong even after intense boiling and can be easily infused into glutinous rice.

 

To purchase these highly sought-after rice dumplings, orders must be placed between 11 May 2018 and 16 June 2018 while the dumplings will be ready for collection from 5 June 2018 to 18 June 2018 at Spring Moon. The guests purchasing 10 or more dumplings are entitled to a 10% discount, while a 15% discount is applied to orders of 50 or more.
