The Peninsula Beijing is again thinking pink for a purpose this October, for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Marking its sixth anniversary in 2015, the annual Peninsula in Pink campaign to raise awareness and funds for breast cancer charities is undergoing a creative makeover to become “The Art of Pink.” Although extensive renovations are ongoing as part of hotel’s exciting transformation, The Peninsula Beijing will again show its support for the global charitable initiative.
Throughout October, all staff at The Peninsula Beijing will wear a specially commissioned pink ribbon pin. Guests can also participate by purchasing the pink pin, with part of the proceeds donated to the China Breast Cancer Foundation .
In keeping with The Peninsula Hotels’ global support of innovative art-related initiatives, The Art of Pink creative theming for the 2015 Peninsula in Pink campaign features each hotel exhibiting specially commissioned pink-inspired artworks by acclaimed global artists, with the pink masterpieces auctioned and the proceeds donated to breast cancer care charities.
The Peninsula Beijing has partnered with acclaimed Chinese artist Qin Feng, who created the stunning painting for The Lobby. In addition to exhibiting his specially commissioned work at the hotel, Qin Feng will participate in a “Pink Tie” Fundraising Gala at The Peninsula Hong Kong on Tuesday, 29 September 2015. The gala evening will feature a charity ‘pink art’ auction conducted by François Curiel, Chairman of Christie's Asia Pacific, with proceeds from the art sales donated to the Hong Kong Hereditary Breast Cancer Family Registry.
Qin Feng is a leading contemporary painter and installation artist originally from Xinjiang, whose solo exhibitions have received wide acclaim from Switzerland to New York, Hong Kong to Berlin. A keen student of global art across the centuries, Qin Feng plays with traditional styles and forms of Chinese art, juxtaposing calligraphy and ink patterns with Western abstract concepts.
In his unique work exhibited at The Peninsula Beijing, Qin Feng has created a stunning outline form in ink set against a vivid pink background that depicts the woman as an arbiter of harmony and peaceful change in the world. Her battle between power and freedom enhances her natural beauty.
As part of The Art of Pink breast cancer awareness campaign, a dedicated webpage, www.peninsula.com/pink, will be launched in October. The website features news, information and articles about all of The Art of Pink initiatives at the ten Peninsula hotels, including the campaign’s history, photographs and videos.
About Peninsula in Pink and “The Art of Pink”
Breast cancer is the most prevalent cancer among women and the second-most common cancer in the world today, accounting for one in 10 of all new cancers diagnosed worldwide, and nearly one in four female cancer cases. With these statistics in mind, The Peninsula Hotels decided to harness its resources and create the Peninsula in Pink charitable initiative.
Launched in Hong Kong in 2010, Peninsula in Pink is an annual event at all the Peninsula hotels in Asia, North America and Europe. In its first five years, Peninsula in Pink raised a total of HK$ 3.3 million for breast cancer charities worldwide, including HK$ 1.7 million in 2014. In 2015, the Peninsula in Pink receives a creative makeover to be become The Art of Pink, and the annual campaign presents pink-themed art initiatives at each Peninsula hotel to raise funds and awareness for breast cancer charities.
