The Peninsula Bangkok welcomes Chinese New Year with home-style family experiences to spread joy and happiness in the Year of the Rooster. Guests can ring in the Chinese New Year in time-honoured style with curated events and promotions inspired by Spring Festival customs, flavours and traditions. Festive highlights include a lion dance performance, a chauffeured “Lucky Ride” tour in the Peninsula’s green Tuk-Tuk, and authentic menus and delicacies. A compelling lion dance performance through the hotel entrance and the lobby beckons prosperity and good fortune for guests on Saturday 28 January.

Chinese New Year is one of the largest annual celebrations in Asia, and Thailand is no exception. More than eight million Thai-Chinese live across Thailand, and Bangkok is home to a vibrant China Town district. Guests seeking to experience the jubilant spirit of Chinese New Year are welcomed at The Peninsula Bangkok with hanging red lanterns and fragrant red, yellow, pink and purple flowers. Good fortune and health are beckoned with themed, in-room amenities, including Chinese confectionary boxes filled with Chinese-inspired sweets and red envelopes containing gold chocolate coins.

Chinese New Year is a time for a family gathering. Family guests can enjoy the celebrations in style when staying during this festivity. Junior guests will enjoy Chinese New Year feast the most as they dine at any of the hotel’s restaurants with our compliments when accompanied by their parents.

The auspicious lucky ride Chinese New Year tradition is given a cultured Peninsula Bangkok twist on Saturday 28 January (advance reservation is required). Suite guests can take a complimentary two-hour Tuk-Tuk tour to visit Kalayanamitr temple. Built in 1825 by King Rama III, Chinese monks lived in the temple and distinctive Chinese influences are evident in the temple’s unique architecture. En route, guests also visit Tha Din Daeng, made famous for its Chinese traders and products since the early 19th century.

Chinese New Year brings together families for a sumptuous feast, and reunion dining is made extra special at Mei Jiang as Chinese Cuisine Executive Chef Jackie Ho presents two curated menus, entitled Fortune and Wealth, from 20 January to 5 February, plus a selection of a la carte dishes. Chef Jackie’s Year of the Rooster delights include Yu Shang salmon sashimi with shredded mixed vegetables, and Roasted crispy pork belly, Japanese cucumber and jelly fish salad in mild chilli sauce, and a sweetened red bean cream with sesame dumpling dessert is perfect for sharing with loved ones or friends.

The world-famous Peninsula Afternoon Tea receives a flavourful Spring Festival makeover between 16 January and 31 January. Executive Pastry Chef Nicolas Pelloie has crafted a China-inspired selection of sweet and savoury delicacies for afternoon diners to enjoy, including a Peking Duck Sandwich, Mei Jiang’s Signature BBQ Pork Puff, Imperial Mandarin Mousse and Black Sesame Lantern.

Chinese New Year’s relaxation is an invigorating pleasure at The Peninsula Spa. For guests who would like to achieve a balanced “Qi”, which is the life force in Chinese, a 30-minute Chinese Jade treatment is recommended. This is a result-driven Jade Acupressure treatment. Guests can choose between Jade Acupressure Facial or Jade Foot Massage. The Chinese believe that Jade has healing properties, helping in detoxification as well as balancing the inner self. Exploring the sights, sounds and flavours of Chinese New Year in Bangkok is made easy at The Peninsula Bangkok. Guests can take a 10-minute ferry from a dock near the hotel across the Chao Phraya River to China Town and enjoy the colourful festivities throughout the 15 days and nights of celebrations to welcome the Year of the Rooster.

The 30-minute Jade Stone Treatment at The Peninsula Spa is offered from 09:00 am to 2:00 pm between 23 January and 5 February, and are priced at THB 888++ per person per treatment.
