The Lobby introduces its signature new dessert “Adore” to celebrate the transformation of The Peninsula Beijing. Handcrafted by award-winning French Executive Pastry Chef Frederic Moreau, the mouth-watering sweet treat using the bespoke Valrhona chocolate combines a hazelnut sponge, banana passion fruit gelee, caramelised hazelnut, Peninsula dark chocolate cream, whipped praline cream, and a Peninsula dark chocolate glaze. Each delicious serving is stylishly crowned with a chocolate pailou, an inventive confectionery replica of the iconic Chinese pailou archway that welcomes guests to The Peninsula Beijing. The signature lobby dessert will be limitedly served daily at The Lobby from June.
The cooperation between Valrhona and The Peninsula Beijing is unique; the only hotel in China to offer this bespoke blend. Executive Pastry Chef Frederic Moreau journeyed to Lyon to select the cocoa beans and work with French premium chocolate brand Valrhona to produce a specially blended chocolate base for his handcrafted pastries and desserts. Valrhona has been producing the world’s finest chocolate in the small village of Tain L’Hermitage, France since 1922. For almost a century, Valrhona has created a range of unique and recognizable aromatic profiles by perfecting techniques for enhancing the flavour of rare cocoa beans, grown on land masterfully selected for its terroir.
The Lobby is the heart of every Peninsula hotel, and the beautifully restyled Lobby at The Peninsula Beijing celebrates Chinese culture through the integration of classic and contemporary art and design into the monumental space. Embellishing the palatial grandeur is a grand marble staircase complemented by a pair of specially commissioned abstract ink paintings depicting the sun and moon by Chinese artist Qin Feng. In addition, two bronze sculptures of tea drinkers by Zhang Du reference Beijing tea culture and The Peninsula’s legendary Afternoon Tea tradition.
